Buying the hours as a package, rather than a session at a time, keeps the effective rate lower and lets the tutor plan a full arc toward the goal instead of working piecemeal.

Why the rate is not the real cost

A group class often looks cheaper per hour than a private tutor. But the number that matters is the total cost to reach the goal, not the rate. Because one-on-one tutoring spends every minute on your student's specific weak spots and pacing, a well-targeted plan can reach the same gain in fewer hours than a broad class. Fewer, more effective hours can make private tutoring the better value, not just the better experience.

What makes the total go up or down

• The size of the score gain. A large jump takes more hours than a polish, so it costs more.
• The starting point. Gains near the top of the scale take more time per point.
• Practice between sessions. A student who does the work outside sessions needs fewer paid hours.
• The package size. A bigger block of hours costs more up front but usually carries a lower effective rate.
