Introducing the High Performance Tutoring App: Your Tutor, In Your Pocket

Book tutoring, manage your schedule, and stay connected.

After fifteen-plus years of running a tutoring company, I can tell you the most common message we receive has nothing to do with math. It is some version of "Can we move Thursday's session to 6:00?" — usually sent at 9:30 at night, after dinner is cleaned up, practice is over, and a parent finally has thirty seconds to think about the week ahead.

I have read thousands of these messages. They taught me something important: for most families, the hard part of tutoring isn't the tutoring. It's the logistics. The back-and-forth to find a time. The "wait, is our session this Wednesday or next Wednesday?" The wondering what you've used and what you owe. None of it is difficult, exactly — it's just friction, and it lands on parents who are already carrying a full load.

So we did something about it. Today I get to announce something I am genuinely proud of: the High Performance Tutoring app is now available on the App Store, and it is completely free.

Why we built our own app

Plenty of companies bolt on some generic scheduling software, slap their logo on it, and call it a day. We didn't want that. We build our own technology at High Performance Tutoring — our scheduling system, our billing, and now our app — because after this many years we know exactly how real families actually use tutoring, and off-the-shelf software never quite fits.

That knowledge shaped every screen. Families book late at night, so booking had to work in a few taps with real, live tutor availability — not a "request a time and wait for a callback" form. Parents told us billing at other companies felt like a mystery, so we made balances and payment history visible down to the session. Students forget things (so do adults, by the way), so reminders had to arrive automatically, right when they help.

Here is what the app puts in your pocket:

Book or reschedule in seconds. Open the app, see your tutor's actual availability, pick a time, done. Rescheduling works the same way. No phone tag, no email chains, no waiting until our office opens. The week can change at 9:47 PM and you can fix it at 9:48.

Reminders and real-time updates. The app sends a push notification before upcoming sessions and any time something changes — a confirmation, a reschedule, a cancellation. Nothing slips through the cracks, and nobody shows up on the wrong Wednesday.

A direct line to our office. Have a question about scheduling, billing, or finding an additional tutor? Message us right from the app. A real human at our office reads it and gets back to you quickly. (I am a big believer in technology, but when you have a question about your child, you deserve a person.)

Billing you can actually see. Your balance, your packages, how many hours you've used, and your full payment history — all visible at a glance. You can pay securely in the app with a saved card or Apple Pay. I have heard too many stories from families who left other services because they never knew what they were being charged. In our app, there are no mysteries.

Your student's sessions and progress, in one place. Every session — past and upcoming — with the details attached: which tutor, which subject, where and when. It's a running record of the work your son or daughter is putting in, and honestly, it's satisfying to scroll.

Your calendar, synced. Subscribe once and your tutoring sessions appear right inside the calendar app your family already lives by, and stay current on their own.

Fast and secure. The app signs you in with Face ID, so checking your schedule takes about as long as checking the weather.

The part I care about most

I want to be honest about why this matters to me, because it isn't really about the technology.

The most valuable sixty minutes in our entire company is the hour a student spends with their tutor. That's it. That's the product. Everything else — the scheduling, the billing, the reminders, the phone calls — is overhead surrounding that hour. And for years, I've watched that overhead quietly tax the very people we're trying to help: busy parents deciding, at the margin, whether keeping tutoring going is worth one more logistical chore in an overloaded week.

The app is our answer. Every tap it saves is attention that goes back where it belongs — to the student, and to the work. Technology should not replace the human relationship at the center of learning (I've written before about why a human tutor still beats AI); it should clear the path for it. That is the whole philosophy, and it's why we built this ourselves instead of settling for software that almost fits.

If you want the full tour with screenshots, we put together a page that shows everything the app can do. And if you're the kind of person who just downloads things and pokes around — honestly, that's the best way. It's free, it takes about a minute to sign in, and everything is right where you'd expect it to be.

The app is on iPhone today, and Android is coming soon. If you try it, I would genuinely love to hear what you think — what works, what's confusing, what you wish it did. We build this software ourselves, which means when a parent suggests something smart, we can actually go build it. Some of the app's best details already came from exactly that kind of feedback.
