Hi! I’m Alice, a pre-med Rice University graduate with a B.A. in Sports Medicine and Exercise Physiology (and minors in Biochemistry and Medical Humanities). I specialize in targeted test prep (specifically the SAT, ACT, and ISEE), comprehensive K-12 mathematics through Pre-Calculus and Trigonometry, and advanced sciences like Chemistry, Biology, and Anatomy. How I Teach: I believe that learning shouldn't feel like a chore; instead, I strive to help students find their progress rewarding. My style is structured, encouraging, and tailored to what each student actually needs. Rather than relying on rote memorization, I focus on building core understanding and active problem-solving strategies. Whether we are breaking down word roots to figure out tough vocabulary or tackling multi-step algebra equations, I help students see logic behind the material so they can approach similar problems on their own. Every student learns differently, so I constantly adapt my lessons to fit their pace and style. My goal isn't just to help them get through tonight's homework or get a short-term score boost: I want to help my students build self-efficacy in their abilities, a growth-mindset that enables them to learn from mistakes, and independent problem solving strategies that carry into other classes and beyond academics. As both a teacher and a mentor, I work to build their confidence to tackle challenges on their own, while making sure they know they always have a supportive sounding board whenever questions arise. What a Typical Session Looks Like: I run my sessions with a clear structure to help students feel comfortable and focused. We start with a quick check-in about their week, then review recent classwork together. I let the student’s confidence guide our focus: targeting the concepts they felt unsure about, working through practice problems to build solid strategies, and then moving on to new material. Throughout the session, I test for understanding and adapt as needed, finishing with a clear recap and action plan for the week ahead. A Bit More About Me: When I’m not tutoring or preparing for med school, I spend time volunteering at a local hospice, which has been a deeply meaningful way for me to connect with and support others in my community. When I have free time, I’m usually playing pickleball with my friends or trying out new coffee spots around San Diego. I look forward to meeting your family and supporting your student on their academic journey!
