Bio
I've been a tutor at High Performance Tutoring for over five years now, and I feel very fortunate that I found an occupation that lets me make a difference in the lives of others, and that also promotes my own personal growth. Over the years, I've acquired the skills to tutor many topics, such as math, physics, chemistry, and German. Having spent most of my life in Germany and now about a decade in the U.S., I have a heightened awareness of how different cultures and pedagogic philosophies yield different outcomes in students. For example, German culture values executive functioning skills such as discipline very highly, whereas American culture puts an emphasis on individualist and creative thinking (both are cliches, and both are true in my experience). I therefore try to be eclectic and combine the positive aspects of both cultures in my teaching style. I look forward to my tutoring sessions every day, because helping students traverse the gap that separates ignorance from knowledge is a joy and a privilege, every time. Other things I enjoy doing are traveling, hiking, running, mountain biking and—less wholesomely— drinking loads of coffee while reading up on the political news of the day. In 2015 I completed High Performance Tutoring's ACT/SAT Prep Certification and have helped many students dramatically improve their standardized test scores.
