Math, Physics

Here are some sentences and information about my educational background and love of teaching/tutoring: I hold a PhD in pure mathematics from Stony Brook College and a Bachelor’s degree in Physics from The Johns Hopkins University. Since my freshman year of college, I have worked as a tutor and love helping students with homework and assessments in mathematics and physics. I have taught Precalculus, all semesters of Calculus, Linear Algebra, Differential Equations, and a Capstone Class on Complex Analysis and the Riemann Hypothesis. Teaching and tutoring has given me the unique opportunity to introduce students to advanced mathematical and physical concepts while making the subjects relatable and fun.

Math, Physics

I’m a student at the University of Utah, where I’m studying physics and applied math with a strong passion for research. With several years of experience as both a private and school tutor, I’ve developed the ability to break down complex topics into more digestible concepts. I enjoy tutoring because it allows me to focus on the unique needs of each student, offering a personalized learning experience that’s often missing in a traditional classroom setting.

Math, Physics

I have loved learning about the subjects of math and physics from about 6th grade onward. The point at which most people get discouraged by the sudden appearance of letters mingled with math is where it got interesting for me. I taught myself the basics of calculus in 9th grade, and started on general relativity shortly thereafter (though that one admittedly took a lot longer). I went on to get a BS ('01) and MS ('05) in physics from BYU. I have tutored my peers since high school, but really kicked my professional tutoring into gear in 2012. Since that point I have logged over 6100 hours, covering all parts of math from basic arithmetic to partial differential equations, as well as all areas of physics, from high school to college level. The thing I enjoy most about tutoring--what keeps me coming back for more--is the opportunity to "see the lights come on" as a subject that was challenging to a student in the classroom becomes easy and transparent as I work one-on-one with him or her.

Biology, Test Prep

I have a bachelor's degree in Biomedical Engineering, and I'm currently working towards a master's degree with emphases in neural engineering, and synthetic biology. Before I became a tutor with High Performance Tutoring, I could often be found in study groups or office hours helping other students with subjects ranging from biology and chemistry to engineering to language courses. I scored highly on the ACT and SAT, and I've prepared friends and family for taking the tests through helpful test-taking strategies. I've always enjoyed learning and applying my knowledge, and I like to help others positively experience something I love. When tutoring, I prefer to let students lead with what they already know, so we can build on that knowledge and help them be successful. I think it's important to help students realize how much they do know before tackling the unknown, so they can have some confidence in moving forward. I tend to teach with my hands a lot, and I like to use mnemonics and memory devices to help students grasp new concepts.

Chemistry, Math, Physics

I am a student at the University of Utah pursuing a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering with a minor in Physics. My passion for math, physics, and chemistry began during my early college courses at NUAMES high school, where I first discovered how exciting these subjects could be. Since then, I’ve enjoyed tutoring high school students and helping them not only solve problems, but also understand how concepts connect to one another and where they came from. I believe students learn best when they can see the bigger picture, and I strive to make math and science approachable, engaging, and relevant. As a tutor, my goal is to build confidence and replace fear of these subjects with curiosity and understanding. I take time to adapt my teaching to each student’s learning style, making sure they gain both the skills to solve problems and the tools to think critically. Nothing is more rewarding than seeing a student move from doubt to mastery, and I am committed to making that journey as supportive and encouraging as possible.

Math

I'm currently a student at BYU majoring in Applied and Computational Mathematics with an emphasis in Business Management. I love anything math but also love people, which is why I have also chosen to complete a minor in business as well. I have been a private math tutor since high school, tutoring students in elementary school all the way up through college. I have also been a private ACT tutor as I was able to excel on that exam and receive a full tuition scholarship to BYU and can now use those skills to help others do the same. While attending BYU, I have been a research assistant for the state of Utah, researching learning development in large language models such as ChatGPT. I love to play the piano, spend time with family and friends, bake just about anything, and spend time outside. One of the reasons I love tutoring is because of the joy I feel when I can help a subject or topic "click" for someone else. Helping others grow in confidence in any particular subject is one of the most rewarding experiences, and I feel my educational and tutoring experience allows me to do that.

Computer Science, Math

I've been a private tutor for almost a decade now helping students with subjects from grammar to calculus, and I've gotten results. Working with high school and college students, I've helped people who felt their chances were hopeless earn strong grades and really understand the things they needed to do it. I'm a graduate of BYU's computer science major with a minor in mathematics, I earned perfect scores on the ACT and SAT, and my whole life I've been naturally curious and gifted at any technical field I've had the opportunity to study. Through tutoring I've learned that sometimes all someone needs to succeed is for something to be taught a certain way, a way they haven't heard before, so my approach to tutoring is about finding what will make my student really understand the problem. It's fulfilling to see that process through and see things start to click, and it's kept me interested in tutoring all these years.

I earned my bachelor’s degree in Applied Mathematics and also hold a certificate in Computer Programming. With three years of tutoring experience, I've worked with a wide range of students—from eager middle schoolers to ambitious college undergraduates—through the fascinating world of math. My expertise spans subjects like precalculus, calculus, linear algebra, and differential equations, as well as specialized coaching for the SAT and ACT. My tutoring approach is straightforward and friendly, focusing on building from what students already know to explore more complex topics. This helps demystify tough concepts and boosts confidence, making math not just understandable but enjoyable. Beyond tutoring, I find joy and balance in music and volunteering, which keep me connected to my community and grounded in my personal values.

Biology, Chemistry, Foreign Language

I just graduated from BYU, double majoring in Cellular Biology and Physiology and Spanish Studies and will soon be attending Medical School at the University of Washington. During my time at BYU, I was a teaching assistant for a Human Physiology class and an Endocrinology class and worked with hundreds of students in both group and private settings. I am well practiced in breaking down difficult concepts into easier "bite sized" pieces, and have found great satisfaction in helping students and peers understand difficult concepts and find success in their studies. My majors have prepared and qualified me to tutor in these subjects and my experience teaching and acting as a private tutor have helped me to develop the necessary skills to do so successfully.
