I am a graduate of Harvy Mudd College and a PhD student of mathematics. I have been a university math instructor for 7 years and have over 20 years of one-on-one tutoring experience. I have helped students in all levels of math, physics, chemistry, computer science, accounting, finance, economics, and more. I enjoy breaking things down in a way students can really understand them. When people say they are bad at math or science, what I think they really mean is that they are out of practice. I love showing people that math and science can be much easier than anticipated when concepts are explained clearly. I enjoy seeing how different people learn and adjusting my teaching style to match the needs of each student.

Math

I am a graduate of UCSD, and I have several years of experience tutoring mathematics students from the elementary to university level. In these years, I’ve learned how to educate topics in a more intuitive way, such that even struggling students can catch on to what is going on, and how they should be thinking. I enjoy tutoring so strongly because I feel that math is an elegant subject which goes unappreciated due to poor instruction, and I feel that I can help more people appreciate mathematics.

Math, Physics, Statistics

I have a BS in Mathematics pursuing to become a math teacher. For over 5 years, I have tutored a variety of students from elementary to collegiate levels, including special education students. Math is not a subject to be scared of but a challenge that can be overcome. My educational philosophy is student learning outcomes and improvement are more important than only grades and scores. When I help students, I don't want them to just get the concept and be done with math when the grades come out. My goal is for every learner to learn math as a life-long subject beyond the classroom.

Computer Science

I recently graduated from California State University, Long Beach with my bachelor's degree in computer science. I first became interested in teaching way back in middle school - my English teacher handed out extra credit if we'd make PowerPoint lessons covering the week's vocabulary words and I really enjoyed making and presenting them. My key reason for enjoying teaching has always been that it gives me great joy when someone learns how to do something new. I especially like it when someone takes the knowledge I give them and uses it to create something entirely new. My first foray with tutoring was in high school, where I tutored fellow students - I was an advanced math student, and I'd tutor students taking regular or remedial courses. I then worked for an after-school program that runs similar to High Performance Tutoring, teaching kids in weekly lessons in a self-paced format. Finally, I started the School Outreach program at the Women in Computing student organization at my college. We travel to local middle schools and teach children (especially girls) how to program on LEGO Mindstorms SPIKE robots. I was quite proud when I learned that all of the coding competition winners at the 2023 regional event held at my college came from the class we'd reached out to that fall.
