Math, Statistics

I have a master's degree in Mathematics Education from CSU Chico, as well as bachelor's degrees in applied math and physics from UC Berkeley. For four years I taught mathematics at CSU Chico to students of a wide range of skill levels, and I tutored math for 5 years prior to this. I truly believe that doing well in mathematics is a skill that anyone can learn, and my favorite thing about tutoring is seeing my students become confident in their own mathematical ability. When tutoring, my philosophy is to listen carefully to ideas my students’ already have and help them build from these ideas to a complete understanding.

Business

I graduated with a double major in Management and Accounting. Post college, I self-studied and passed the California Certified Public Accountant (CPA) exam and I have continued my education to keep my license active. I am currently in a graduate program through the San Jose State Lucas School of Business working towards a Master’s of Science in Transportation Management degree. Throughout college I tutored other students and after graduating eventually went on to teach Accounting II for a few semesters as an adjunct professor at a private university. Being a former teacher, I know that not all students learn the same in a classroom. I enjoy being able to work individually with students to grasp difficult concepts and achieve their academic goals.

Language Arts, Math

Hi! I'm currently a student at University of California, Berkeley, pursuing a bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering. I started tutoring in high school, teaching topics ranging from math to English. (I'm also an older sibling, so I've been teaching my younger brother for almost as long as I can remember!) I've learned to work well with students of many age groups and backgrounds. Learning new concepts can be quite the challenge, so I'm always patient with my students. I make it a personal goal to help my students get the most out of their education. Consequently, I always adapt my teaching strategies and pacing to maximize learning efficiency. Although I'm a STEM major, I'm very passionate about public speaking, having done numerous debate and business competitions for 6 years. In my free time, I love to play badminton, win at Mario Kart, and try new restaurants with my friends!

Finance

I have recently graduated from the University of La Verne with a BS in Business Finance. Prior to graduating, I tutored as an undergraduate student for two years at our Academic Success Center and I also volunteered to tutor at-risk young children in the Pomona School District. Over the past few years, I have developed a deep appreciation for tutoring, I love finance and sharing what I find interesting about the subject. I believe a strong understanding of finance is very rewarding and an extremely important life skill to have. Currently, I am continuing my studies in Finance as I pursue the certification of a CFA. I am excited to work with you!

Chemistry, Foreign Language, Math, Test Prep

I’ve been a tutor at High Performance Tutoring for over five years now, and I feel very fortunate that I found an occupation that lets me make a difference in the lives of others, and that also promotes my own personal growth. Over the years, I’ve acquired the skills to tutor many topics, such as math, physics, chemistry, and German. Having spent most of my life in Germany and now about a decade in the U.S., I have a heightened awareness of how different cultures and pedagogic philosophies yield different outcomes in students. For example, German culture values executive functioning skills such as discipline very highly, whereas American culture puts an emphasis on individualist and creative thinking (both are cliches, and both are true in my experience). I therefore try to be eclectic and combine the positive aspects of both cultures in my teaching style. I look forward to my tutoring sessions every day, because helping students traverse the gap that separates ignorance from knowledge is a joy and a privilege, every time. Other things I enjoy doing are traveling, hiking, running, mountain biking and—less wholesomely— drinking loads of coffee while reading up on the political news of the day. In 2015 I completed High Performance Tutoring's ACT/SAT Prep Certification and have helped many students dramatically improve their standardized test scores.
