I am a graduate of Harvy Mudd College and a PhD student of mathematics. I have been a university math instructor for 7 years and have over 15 years of one-on-one tutoring experience. I have helped students in all levels of math, physics, chemistry, computer science, accounting, finance, economics, and more. I enjoy breaking things down in a way students can really understand them. When people say they are bad at math or science, what I think they really mean is that they are out of practice. I love showing people that math and science can be much easier than anticipated when concepts are explained clearly. I enjoy seeing how different people learn and adjusting my teaching style to match the needs of each student.

I am a student at the University of Utah studying biomedical engineering. I also graduated from Weber State University with an Associate of Science degree. I am also a competitive figure skater. I really enjoy tutoring because I get to share something I've learned and something I view as valuable with someone else, and potentially show them how magical the world actually is.

I have experience tutoring kids at Kumon Learning Center in reading and mathematics, which helped me to explore different teaching styles and learn to more effectively communicate with younger learners. Having scored a 36 on the ACT and taken over 10 AP classes has instilled me with an appreciation of hard work, and an understanding of what it takes to be a very successful student in high school. My tutoring is motivated by my own love of learning, which makes it easy for me to persevere when teaching a difficult or complex subject. In 2018 I completed High Performance Tutoring's ACT/SAT Prep Certification and have helped numerous students greatly improve their ACT/SAT scores since then.

Chemistry, Test Prep

I am graduating in Chemical Engineering at the University of Utah. I love feeling like I understand my schoolwork, rather than just knowing how to solve a problem, and have spent several years as a private tutor, teaching assistant, lab instructor, and associate instructor trying to help students feel the same. I like getting to know the people I work with and helping find understanding with whatever approach works best, as I am happy to share in the feelings of success and the light bulb moment. In my time not at school or teaching, I am at the pool or geeking out about one of my hobbies or interests.

Math, Test Prep

I am a student at University of Utah finishing my Bachelor's degree in Physics and Atmospheric Science. I'm interested in improving the environment and helping others. I've been tutoring students for two and a half years and I have an irrational love for series problems in Calculus II. One of the most fulfilling moments is when a student of mine has the 'aha!' moment. Making learning fun and casual is my highest priority. I enjoy sports, video games, and the outdoors.

Test Prep

I am a former classroom math teacher who has been tutoring online since 2018. I graduated from Michigan State University, did masters coursework in Instruction and Curriculum at University of Denver, and earned my teaching license from University of Colorado Denver. I taught math at the former Montbello High School and at John F. Kennedy High School in Denver. My side gig is writing test-prep curriculum for a variety of edtech companies, so I know the tests’ tricks inside and out, and I’d love to share them with you! I struggled with math as a student, which I believe makes me a stronger tutor now – I understand what my students are going through and will never judge a kid for being confused. I believe that we all have an inner “math person,” we just may not have met them yet. While math is my favorite thing to teach, I also love getting into the nitty-gritty of grammar and the intricacies of reading comprehension. In my free time you can find me up to my elbows in my garden, buried in the basement with my video games, or paying entirely too much attention to my cat.

I’ve been a tutor at High Performance Tutoring for over five years now, and I feel very fortunate that I found an occupation that lets me make a difference in the lives of others, and that also promotes my own personal growth. Over the years, I’ve acquired the skills to tutor many topics, such as math, physics, chemistry, and German. Having spent most of my life in Germany and now about a decade in the U.S., I have a heightened awareness of how different cultures and pedagogic philosophies yield different outcomes in students. For example, German culture values executive functioning skills such as discipline very highly, whereas American culture puts an emphasis on individualist and creative thinking (both are cliches, and both are true in my experience). I therefore try to be eclectic and combine the positive aspects of both cultures in my teaching style. I look forward to my tutoring sessions every day, because helping students traverse the gap that separates ignorance from knowledge is a joy and a privilege, every time. Other things I enjoy doing are traveling, hiking, running, mountain biking and—less wholesomely— drinking loads of coffee while reading up on the political news of the day. In 2015 I completed High Performance Tutoring's ACT/SAT Prep Certification and have helped many students dramatically improve their standardized test scores.

I graduated from University of Houston in 2017 with two degrees in Physics and Mathematics. While studying, I worked as a field researcher for a NASA sponsored program. I have been doing personal tutoring and masterclasses since January 2018 and the thing I enjoy the most is seeing the moment when the light clicks on in a students head and their intuition and curiosity begin to guide them through their academic endeavors.
